A steering wheel chooses its driver: the CUPRA advert with Tom Felton turns choosing a car into a short film story. If you recognise the actor, Draco Malfoy may be the first character that comes to mind. The Chosen One campaign plays on precisely that connection. Here are the answers about the actor, advert and cars.
Who is the actor in the CUPRA advert?
It is Tom Felton, known for playing Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. The British actor takes the leading role in CUPRA's campaign.
What does The Chosen One mean?
The title points to the idea of being selected. The story recalls the visit to Ollivanders in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, where the wand chooses its owner. In the CUPRA advert, a steering wheel takes that role. Felton tries different options until the connection between driver and car feels right.
CUPRA introduced the global campaign on 7 May 2026. Its main film runs for around two minutes. Creative agency &Rosàs developed the campaign, which was filmed in Toronto and Navarra. This is a separate car campaign built around a familiar motif, rather than a new scene from a Harry Potter film.
Which cars feature in the CUPRA campaign?
CUPRA names three models that receive individual advertising alongside the campaign for the range:
- CUPRA Formentor
- CUPRA Terramar
- CUPRA Leon
The German campaign page presents E-HYBRID versions. According to the manufacturer, The Chosen One covers combustion-engine and plug-in hybrid models. A “CUPRA advert” therefore does not automatically mean a fully electric car here. The specific version matters.
Tom Felton’s cars: BMW and Mercedes-Benz
BMW 6 Series and Mercedes-Benz CLA are among the cars Tom Felton has spoken about himself. In the Times Magazine in 2011, he said he was driving a BMW 6 Series. In the Sunday Express on 18 January 2015, he named a Mercedes CLA, praising its technology and engine sound.
Felton also bought a car for his family: in the same interview, he spoke about giving his mother a Ford Focus. She had been driving it for six years at the time.
CUPRA e-HYBRID: price, consumption and electric range
For the plug-in hybrids with 1.5 e-HYBRID, 150 kW (204 PS) and six-speed DSG, CUPRA’s German price lists give the following figures:
- CUPRA Formentor: from €50,145, electric range 117–126 km. Weighted consumption: 1.4–1.6 litres of petrol and 13.2–13.9 kWh of electricity per 100 km. With the battery depleted: 5.3–5.6 l/100 km.
- CUPRA Terramar: from €52,000, electric range 111–119 km. Weighted consumption: 1.6–1.8 litres of petrol and 13.6–14.8 kWh of electricity per 100 km. With the battery depleted: 5.7–6.2 l/100 km.
- CUPRA Leon (five-door hatchback): from €44,715, electric range 124–131 km. Weighted consumption: 1.3–1.4 litres of petrol and 13.0–13.2 kWh of electricity per 100 km. With the battery depleted: 5.1–5.4 l/100 km.
All consumption and range figures are combined WLTP laboratory values; the bands reflect equipment differences. Weighted consumption accounts for electric and petrol-powered driving and charging from an external electricity supply. Cold weather or higher speeds can reduce electric range.
Prices are German recommended retail prices for each base version with this powertrain, including 19% VAT and excluding delivery. Sources: CUPRA price lists dated August 2026, checked on 10 October 2026.
